I’ve been studying trees for decades through my camera lens, drawings and paintings; when I pass by a florist’s storefront at night, the garden behind glass jumps like playful fearless puppies.
Recently, these connections with trees began to resonate at an even deeper frequency in particular locations. I did some research and realized the resonance on these grounds is caused by the good work in progress on these grounds.
These photographs are the trees around Churches that have been quietly doing the work of Reparations, despite lack of federal progress. Some have long histories of noble courageous humanitarian work. Trees are rooted in land that owns us.
